Travel Guide Singapore - Durian 'King of Fruits'.
Can I say most Singaporeans love to eat Durian?
Durian is one of the most Favorite fruit of every Singaporean, and is known here as the King of Fruits. But virtually unknown outside Asia. So, when you are in Singapore have a treat of durian fest and you might like it.
Durian can growth up to the size of a soccer ball but some of its are much smaller and the fruits are easily distinguished from other fruits by their hard coarse, spiky thorns, olive green amour skin. The fruit got a strong notoriously pungent aroma. You can smell the durian quite a distance away. Let me can tell you, either you love it or hate it! Do you know that the King of Fruits “Durian” is ban from taxis, buses and MRT and ever on a plane?
The fruit consist of several segments and each portions of segment you can find chuck of thick sweet creamy yellow flesh. From some articles, its say that up to date, there are more than 100 durian clones available in the region. What you can find in Singapore are the D24, D145, D158 durians. Some of the old folks use to say if you combine durians with alcohol it can be lethal and might kill you. The general advice is to play it safe, it good to avoid such combination.
Singaporean just can’t get enough of it and where can you find the best Durian stalls in Singapore. There lots of Durian stalls along Geylang Road but beware of the cutthroat price from some stalls, Ask before you buy, and my advise for you is that ask the stall keeper to weight each and ask how much each cost if you are going for those per kg kind .you will be surprise for some durian each can cost more than S$70 each. Totally insane! I prefer to eat that of $20 for 3 combinations. I like to patronize the stall along Upper Serangoon Road, beside Upper Serangoon Shopping Centre. I still remember back last year, I brought some durians from him and it turn out the durians is not very good. After few weeks later, I went back to the same place to buy some durian and I told him about the lousy durian and he refund me with the number of good one back. I was impressed! I had been going back to him for durian
