The great Singapore sale set to attract Middle East travellers

The Great Singapore Sale is gearing up to be one of the biggest travel attractions in Asia this summer.

United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, April 25 - 2007 at 13:16

Now in its 14th year, the event, which runs from May 25 through to July 22, has become one of Singapore's signature events, drawing visitors from around the world, including a significant number from the Middle East.

Tourism chiefs are aiming to encourage more visitors from the region to visit Singapore during the summer to take part in major events like the Singapore sale. In May, Singapore Tourism Board will be promoting a range of special deals at the forthcoming Arabian Travel Market 2007 in Dubai and the Bahrain International Travel Exhibition in Manama.

Among the special range of promotions planned for the summer is a travel package launched with Kanoo Holidays. The offer, which includes three nights in a glamorous Singapore hotel and airport transfers, will be available for travellers from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman.

'The annual Great Singapore Sale has become extremely popular with visitors, including those from the Middle East, who have been known to time their visit during the May to July period to take advantage of the great offers. This year's Great Singapore Sale promises additional privileges and promotions specially created for visitors ,' said Ke-Wei Peh, Area Director, Middle East and Africa, Singapore Tourism Board.

During the eight-week 'shopathon', visitors can look forward to discounts of up to 70 percent on a wide range of goods, in addition to a range of special promotions and competitions. Designer labels will also be celebrating their end-of-season sale from end June to July, with discounts of up to 50%.

Middle East travellers can also benefit from The Great Singapore Sale Tourist Privilege Card for special discounts and promotions on shopping, sightseeing, dining and entertainment, as well as a series of special deals for Mastercard holders.

Judging from the past success of the event in attracting visitors, Singapore visitor arrivals throughout June and July are expected to increase significantly.

'We have seen a continuing upward trend in Middle East visitors to Singapore and we are confident of attracting even higher numbers this year. The Sale occurs at the peak of summer which is ideal for visitors from across the Middle East who can also benefit from Singapore's extensive dining and lifestyle options including its many family-friendly attractions,' added Peh.

To ensure visitors make the most of their shopping experience, Singapore will offer late night shopping at major stores and malls on Orchard Road, Marina Bay and Bugis Street up till 12am throughout the first 5 weekends of the sale.
